Our Turquoise Trail Staycation

Our Turquoise Trail Staycation. Nothing makes a staycation extra special like a visit from your daughter and grandchildren!  Tiffany brought Easter and Ivo for their first summer vacation along the Turquoise Trail!  Bill and I were so excited to explore all of the fun right in our neck of the woods!

First stop, Broken Saddle Riding Company in Cerrillos. Harold was so wonderful to us, as always. He introduced us to June, who saddled up Abby for Easter. She showed her how to feed her carrots, and taught her how to “steer and stop” Abby. Easter was so excited and fearless as she settled into the saddle for a ride.  Even Ivo got into the action, only he was a little more skeptical.

Next stop, the Cerrillos Petting Zoo. The kids had a great time feeding the goats, but Ivo was especially fond of the lama.

Just down the Turquoise Trail is the old mining town of Madrid, another one of our favorite spots. After lunch at Jezebel’s Soda Fountain, we headed to the Photo Park. The pictures speak for themselves! Back down the trail to cool off with a dip in the pool.  After roasting marshmallows, a game of Candy Land, and a Play-do Pizza Party, we were all ready for bed.

The next day we headed up to the crest of the Sandia Mountains. The views are amazing, and the trails family friendly. The kids were awesome little hikers.  I guess all of that walking they do around Brooklyn really paid off!  Then it was back home to cool off in the pool as Ivo took the trophy in the squirt gun fight.

Isn’t it wonderful how kids add such a joyful dimension to the things we sometimes take for granted in our own backyard?  I hope you all had some wonderful moments this summer!

Love,

Carolyn
